Description

NGC3576 - Statue of Liberty nebula.

A bright emission nebula in the Sagittarius arm of our galaxy and in the constellation of Carina. NGC 3576 is a very dense nebula so many of the stars condensing within its structure are hidden from view.

One of my favourite DSO’s. Imaged from Phillip Island on Easter weekend.

Exposures:

67x60s Ha (Hydrogen alpha) filter (656nm).

65x60s OIII (Oxygen III) filter (501nm).

59x60s SII (Sulphur II) filter (672nm).

Total Exposure - 3 hours 11 minutes.

OHS=RGB

Oxygen (signal) in the nebula rendered red.

Hydrogen in the nebula rendered green.

Sulphur in the nebula rendered blue.

I have a further 3 hours of historial data (acquired in March 2018) on the main "Statue of Liberty" and her surrounding gas bubble which I'll combine in a separate processing run to see how this looks with double the exposure (6 hours+).

The only thing missing from this natural rendition is a star cluster atop the torch !

SW 8 inch/f5, ASI1600mm Pro, ZWO filters. NEQPRo6 mount (untracked).
